Why be scary?

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things

1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

It’s that time of year again. Where we can drink pumpkin spice lattes, wear boots and scarfs, enjoy picking out pumpkins and carving them, and feel the Autumn breeze in our hair. But, what about dressing up?

The history of halloween is pretty bad. To give it to you lightly since this is a christian blog, people would leave out food for ‘spirits’ so they wouldn’t kill their crops. And, they would dress up in scary costumes to scare the spirits away. And, that isn’t even summarizing the horror of it all. I don’t mean horror and is frightened, I mean horror as in disgusting, horrible, don’t even want to talk about it.

My grandmother never cared for halloween, because of how people celebrate it by dressing up in horrible attire. When my mom was a little girl, my grandmother (her mother) wouldn’t let her go trick-or-treating. Because, it was heard of that people could poison their candy. Some people might think “Come one, let the girl have some fun!” But, my mother and my grandmother love the Lord and they want to protect their children from harm. My family prefers to call halloween “Fall harvest” because of how halloween came to be.

I remember, before I was home-schooled, our school would have a halloween parade each year. I would dress up as a princess, or something cute each year. But, in 4th grade (the year my mom started home-schooling us) I remember seeing disgusting costumes. Horrible things. It hurts my memory to remember such horror. It was in Elementary too!

Last year, my family drove around our town stopping at the stores to say “trick or treat” and earn candy. But, in some of the stores, we had to close our eyes, because of the horrible decor the store was providing as entertainment to their customers. We were thinking of looking at a parade that the town holds for halloween. But, in the paper it had pictures of children dressed up as devils, scream characters, etc. So, because the Lord says don’t be associated with such things, we decided not too.

I’m not criticizing anyone in any way, shape, or form. I’m just going to ask you something. “Why are you dressing up as scary things, when hell (I am NOT using bad language) is a real place that has things 10 times more scary that your costume?”  Some people might ask is Hell a real place? If Hell is real, how can a loving God send people there? Is there escape from Hell even for people who have committed horrible crimes? These are all questions that can be answered in the Bible. Hell is not only described as a literal place, but the concept of Hell – eternal separation from God — is also explained as the wages of sin Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord. When Jesus taught on earth He taught more about Hell than Heaven. Hell is a place that many, even some Christians, refuse to believe, however because the Bible teaches about Hell we must believe it to be real and true.
Hell has different names, Sheol, the pit, Hades, Gehenna, eternal death, and many more. But, they all translate to one word, which is not bad language, hell. Proverbs 23:13-14 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die.14 If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol. Here is the word Sheol meaning hell, in this verse.

Hell is the place of torment created by God for the devil. God never meant for people to go there. But, because everyone has sinned no one deserves to live with the Holy and righteous Heavenly Father, Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:10 As it is written:“There is no one righteous, not even one. But God is a loving Father and He offers salvation from death to all, and for those that reject the offer, God’s justice will be executed and the wage of sin will be paid in Hell forever.

Sin is so horrible that when Jesus died on the cross, God the Father had to turn away from him, because all of our sin was upon him. God is holy so he couldn’t even look at his own son because of our sin.

In Luke 16:19-31 Jesus said,

There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. (This is called Abraham’s bosom. Jesus hadn’t died and rose again, there was no way for the saved to go to heaven without Jesus, 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus. So, when the saved died then went to Abraham’s bosom until Jesus came. Abraham’s bosom is not in heaven. It is a peaceful side of hell. But, when Jesus rose again, took the keys of hell, so the saved won’t go to hell, but live with him in heaven, and conquered death; Abraham’s bosom was destroyed. ). The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades (hell),  where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

Revelation 20:10….. and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Revelation 18:5-6 ..for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.

There will be different degrees of punishment in hell. Like Hitler will have it worse, than someone who did good all his life but, never accepted Jesus. It’s still hell ladies and gentlemen. Though the degrees of punishment will be different it’s still hell, a place of punishment.
Since, hell is a real place why dress up as something scary for halloween when hell really does have things like that.

I know it might be hard to do, friends telling you “Do it!”, or everyone else dressing up as someone scary. But, you might stand up for your faith in Jesus. Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Thank you that you are the mediator between God and man. Thank you through you the saved can go to heaven! 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,

Thank you Jesus that once we are saved we will go to heaven to be with you, and never go near hell! Romans 8:38-39  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers. Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

100 posts!

Today, I have officially posted 100 posts on this blog. All my posts were inspired by Jesus Christ. My blog has come along way since it first started.

I started out wanting to write about my dream cupcake bakery, henceforth, the name cupcakegirl10. But, then I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to change my blog. To something honoring to God. So, I changed it too, The work of thy fingers. I talked about God’s amazing creation. Then, I started writing things that were not just about God’s creation, though a very good topic, I started writing about Jesus in our everyday lives.

I prayed and asked God what I should name my new blog. He led me to the name Bible Talk. Let’s talk about the B.I.B.L.E and J.E.S.U.S!

When I changed the name of my blog, I was always worried about followers. I always wanted to have lots of followers. I started to get weary that only a few people were following my blog. But, I prayed and the Lord helped me let go of that. Now, the Lord has blessed my blog, and he has given me 83 followers! I’m not boasting at all, I am thanking Jesus for the people he has allowed to come into my life, so that I can share Jesus with them.

God knew the plans he had for me. Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. He knew that I was going to start this blog, even before I knew it.  2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, [and] prepared unto every good work. God has made me a willing vessel, and he has used me, for his use, to tell others about him!

Thank you to all who follow my blog, and I hope you find encouragement in my blog posts. But, just know that what I write comes from the LORD and not me.

Psalm 46:5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Fear not tomorrow.

Hebrews 11:1 Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future.

What exactly does Jeremiah 29:11 mean?

Well it says.. For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. So, God knows the plans he has for you.

Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you. So, they are plans to prosper you, and not to hurt you.

Plans to give you hope, and a future. So, God’s plans give you hope, and a future.

The meaning of this verse is that God knows the plans he has for you. They are good plans, to prosper you, and not to hurt you. They are plans to give you hope and a future!

I like to plan ahead. I’m only in seventh grade but, I already have my wedding planned out! I like to plan what I’m going to do tomorrow. I worry if we don’t get something done, and I shouldn’t be like that. Because, this verse says that God knows the plans for you, and for me. I need to stop worrying about tomorrow, thank God for today, and know that God has tomorrow in his hands. He is already there. He is omnipresent. Which means, he God, is present everywhere at the same time. I can’t explain it, I’ll probably never will, but I will when I get to heaven. I just have to take it by faith. Can I prove it? No. I just have to take it by faith. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight

We take God by faith. We can’t see him. But, we have faith in him. It’s the same as your future. You can’t see it but, you have faith that God is gonna work it all out. He has your future in his hands.

So, fear not tomorrow! God is already there!  Your future is in his hands!

God’s love.
